Suri woman with pen necklace

Regular price £800.00 GBP

Unit price per

The Suri are a nomadic tribe on the Ethiopia and Sudan borders. Both women and men paint their faces with clay and wear garlands on their heads made from flowers, fruit, vegetables, sticks and leaves. They usually have stretched earlobes with round plates inserted and wear necklaces made from beads or found plastic goods.

I love that this woman has created a colourful necklace out of plastic tubing and fastened it with the cap of a pen. Combined with the natural beauty of the flowers and leaves she is a wonderful example of how we should all use what we have to create beauty and not waste things.

This is an oil on linen painting and is 50cms x 60cms in a simple square gold frame.

Bothe Suri paintings are identical sizes and are framed identically so that they could work as a pair of paintings together.
