Suri Woman with flowers and leaves
The Suri are a nomadic tribe on the Ethiopia and Sudan borders. Both women and men paint their faces with clay and wear garlands on their heads made from flowers, fruit, vegetables, sticks and leaves. They usually have stretched earlobes with round plates inserted and wear necklaces made from beads or found plastic goods.
I became fascinated with the beauty and stillness of these people and began painting them approximately 4 years ago. This woman's beautiful face is not disguised by her clay mask and her serenity exudes from her sidelong glance. The beads are threaded through wire so they stand proud of her neck like a collar.
I believe that she will stand proud in any interior design and be a compelling focus of a room.
This is an oil on linen painting and is 53 x 63 cms with a gilt frame.
